An environmentally sensitive manufacturing ethic is at the heart of our business. Reducing the use of energy helps us stay focused on creating products that compliment the natural world.
We use a marine grade aluminum that already contains 30-50% recycled material. While we endeavor to use as much material from each sheet as possible in production, all unused material is sent to a local recycling facility where our waste material becomes 100% recycled.
Our wood selection is based on both durability and sustainability. While tropical hardwoods are common in our industry, we prefer a thermally modified white ash, harvested in America from growth forests created for that very purpose. This timber choice places immediate value on protecting tropical rain forests as well as supporting local economies.
We favor the powder coating process due to its lack of VOC’s and energy efficiency. Water-borne paints and powder coatings produce the lowest carbon footprint. In fact, Powder coatings reduce CO2 emissions by 25-60% against conventional solvent-based coating systems.
Every part of our business operations pursue the act of recycling. From office culture to shipping policies, we utilize the recycling of paper, metals and plastic in a way that not only reduces our overall waste but also prevents the use of unnecessary consumables.
We use pneumatic tools whenever possible to eliminate the use of additional power. Fed from two primary energy efficient compressors, our manufacturing facility feeds each station with air driven tools that are highly efficient.
All of our production and manufacturing stations are equipped with LED monitors using a digital production board, eliminating the need for paper trails and production documents.
Our programs and infrastructure limit waste as a form of creative expression.
We’ve built a scalable infrastructure that allows for product design from waste material. We’ve named it LO (Which stands for Left Overs) and it identifies materials that would otherwise be discarded or recycled as material for smaller and functional tools or objects.
Nesting for Zero Waste
Our engineers and machinists use software that allow us to nest parts on a sheet before cutting, creating a maximum sheet yield. This process ensures we are making the most of material which in turn prevents cutting unnecessary additional sheets that uses more energy and creates more waste.
Our manufacturing facility utilizes electric forklifts, scissor lifts and packaging machines that keep our emissions at a minimum and contribute to the vision of a green first organization.
Product Design & Development
Our design team relies on renderings and scale mock-ups that do not require additional use of material and energy while prototyping numerous iterations of a product. In addition, we are driven to pursue design inspired by an efficient manufacturing process resulting in high quality products that require little energy to actually make.
